5 Thanksgiving health tips
Here’s a list of health tips for Thanksgiving that I’m sure will be useful to everyone.
1. Do not eat turkey on an empty stomach. Turkey contains L-tryptophan which causes sedation. It causes this effect only when taken on an empty stomach.
2. Do not overeat. Remember that Thanksgiving dinner is not an ‘all you can eat’ buffet. Overeating makes you more sleepy. When your stomach is full, blood is directed away from other organ systems to your stomach. Since you have less blood flow elsewhere, you will feel sleepy.
3. Some common tips for making a healthier Thanksgiving turkey are removing the skin, using fat-free ingredients etc.
4. If you’re going to drink alcohol, it’s best to eat first. Drinking first makes you feel full. It also makes you drunk faster. But, eating food first slows down absorption of alcohol in your bloodstream.
5. Accident rates increase on holidays. Do not drink and drive.
Remember that too much of anything leads to a negative experience.
Happy Thanksgiving!
