Low blood sugar levels are bad too

Hypoglycemia is when your blood sugar levels are low.

It’s important to know that true hypoglycemia occurs in diabetics who are treated with insulin.

Your body needs energy to work. Energy is supplied by sugars. The most common source of sugar (glucose) is carbohydrates. Your body stores glucose mainly in the liver for emergency conditions (like starvation) in the form of glycogen. During starvation, glycogen is converted back to glucose.

The symptoms of hypoglycemia usually occur when the blood glucose levels are less than 50 mg/dL. These include weakness, hunger, sweating, trembling, palpitation (awareness of one’s own heart beat), dizziness, headache, visual disturbances. Other late manifestations include confusion, inability to concentrate, seizures and even coma.

    I am hypoglycemic, but I don’t have diabetes. Hypoglycemia also has been shown to have a profound effect on depression.

    I worked in a retirement facility for a short time and noticed they had a special night snack area for diabetic residents. They talked about them haveing to eat all the time when their blood sugar was low. I kept thinking to myself, well maybe they are getting too much insulin.

    I have a family full of women who have diabetes. I am the only one who has hypoglycemia instead. It’s very very important to watch those levels. I can feel mine getting low when I get lightheaded, and if I see the black dots, I know I’ve gone too long without sugar.

    @Nipsy: I’ve been hypoglycemic a couple of times myself. It’s best to stop all activity and eat something at that time.
