This holiday be health conscious
Last Christmas, one of my friends told me, “I ran an extra mile so I can have an extra piece of pie” and I told him that it will increase his weight during the holidays as he couldn’t account for how many calories he had burnt while running. The holidays are here. There will soon be festivities, parties etc. which usually lead to weight gain. Research has proved that weight gain during the winter holidays is an important risk factor for adult obesity. So, watch out!
Tips:
1) Create a plan ahead of time. Know what’s good and what’s not for you.
2) While shopping, make sure you have a healthy snack with you. This is so that you wont be tempted to grab something to eat at the mall food court.
3) Avoid gravy and dressings.
4) When there’s a buffet, use the smallest plate that is there and do not take as much as you can in it.
5) Enjoy your friends’ company and dancing too, don’t concentrate on the food.
6) Select your sweets. Eat in small portions.
7) Limit alcohol intake.
8) Don’t go to a party when you are starving. Always grab a snack before.
9) Keep exercising. Simple exercises like going for a walk or running up and down the stairs will also help.
10) Many times you will be forced to eat more by friends, learn how to stay ‘no’ politely.
