Can Vitamin C save you this New Year?
You are more susceptible to common cold around this time as the weather is cold. There are multiple ways of preventing common cold, the main being Vitamin C.
A research done in 2007 showed that Vitamin C does not help prevent common cold but it does reduce duration and severity of symptoms by at least 50%. Does that mean that we should not take Vitamin C? NO!
1) It helps in healing of chapped lips. Your lips become chapped during winter because of the cold air which lacks moisture. So, your lips are prone for getting damaged and cracked. It usually takes 24-48 hours to see improvement.
2) It helps in strengthening your immune system. Vitamin C promotes the production of white blood cells as well as antibodies (which fight infections). Besides, due to its anti-oxidant activity, it protects your body’s cells. So, you are less prone to infections.
3) It can help lose weight. Cold weather makes you crave for high calorie food items. Taking Vitamin C rich foods helps you stay healthy and eat nutritious food.
Common sources of Vitamin C are papaya, strawberry, orange, lemon, cauliflower.
