Get started with YOGA

Published by dratiffarid at 4:56 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Yoga MatEveryday people are reporting their positive experiences with Yoga classes. But, where to start?

Have you thought about starting Yoga too? This article throws light on some of the important aspects you need to know before joining a Yoga class.

Everyone knows that yoga is all about feeling good, breathing and posing. But, that’s not it. You need to have the right equipment to practice with as well.

You will be able to harness full benefits from your Yoga class only if you have the right equipment.

#1 There are some outfits available in the market which are branded as “Yoga clothing”. But that’s not a must. Make sure you wear loose pants or track pants which are able to stretch so that you can move freely. Wear whatever you are comfortable in. Obviously, jeans are to be avoided.

#2 Yoga is almost always performed bare feet. No special shoes are required. So, just wear regular footwear to your Yoga class.

#3 A good yoga mat (sticky mat) is essential. Mats provide support so that you don’t slip. A thin and cushioned one is always good to protect your feet and hands.

#4 A yoga block helps increase your flexibility.

Yoga Ball#5 A yoga ball helps stabilize your body. This is mandatory if you are unable to maintain balance in the first go.

#6 Yoga belts are available for flexibility too.

#7 A blanket when you are performing relaxation exercises.

#8 A scented pillow for the relaxation round at the end of your session.

#9 A bottle of water is a must!

Other important point to remember is that yoga should be done on an empty stomach.

The best way out is to find which Yoga class you want to join. Pay a visit a few days earlier to see the environment. You can to talk to the instructor about the equipments mentioned above.

If you would like to share your Yoga experience or if I’ve missed any other point, please mention it in the ‘Comments’ section below.

Thanks for the info on yoga. I also had not heard of a yoga belt. I personally prefer Pilates, but to each their own. :)

I keep saying that I want to do yoga, but I can’t afford classes. I’m hoping that when I move in May I’ll find a place with a big enough living room so I can do it at home. Thanks for the tips!

I think the tip to do yoga on an empty stomach is the best tip. Few people are told that. In fact, I did it once after eating, probably about an half hour or an hour, and I almost immediately realized why I felt so sick.

Also, women she be warned that the inverted poses can cause increased flow during menstruation.

One of the reasons I love yoga is because I can do it barefoot! I use a mat, brick and belt/strap. I also do it at home with a video that I love. It has 4 levels so I can start slow and increase as my flexibility increases.

I admit I don’t do it daily. I often get my routine thrown off and end up going weeks without doing it, but I regret it because my body gets so tight.

I have made the rule to stretch at the very least every day.

I’m really not into ‘formal’ yoga but I do meditations every night. Are they just the same?

@Badong: Actually meditation is a part of Yoga. So, it’s not bad too. But as I mentioned in the article before - having the right equipment for yoga will give maximum output. This involves various postures and breathing exercises.
